InsightTimer App Review

InsightTimer prides itself on being the #1 free app for sleep, anxiety, and stress. This app has a variety of offerings from meditations, journaling prompts, yoga classes, music, and more. In this blog post, I share my honest review of the free services that the InsightTimer app provides its users and how it benefits me in my daily life.

What InsightTimer Offers

Meditations

The app provides meditations for sleep, breathing, workplace de-stressing, general stress, anxiety, anger, peace, and so many more. I use the app primarily for guided meditations to help with stress management and self-love. You can find some that are as short as 1 minute to as long as you want. I have a favorite 3-minute meditation that I do pretty regularly that you can find here.

Yoga Classes

Join in on some live yoga classes from all over the world. There are classes for all levels from beginners to advanced. What I really like about the free live yoga classes is the opportunity to donate to the yoga teacher for their hard work in providing the class for you. It’s a nice way to give back to local instructors who are giving free resources to you! You can find classes for the same day and for the future to plan out your week!

Music

Listen to thousands of music tracks to help you disconnect from a crazy life. There’s an array of categories to choose from - classical music, nature sounds, instrumentals, sound healing, ambient sound, and many more. And once you find a playlist you really like, you can bookmark it to your profile so you can quick reference it in the app.

Journal

If you would like to get into journaling throughout your meditation journey, the app provides an easy-to-use journal space where you can share your reflections to look back on them later. The journal portion allows you to see all your entries in an orderly fashion. What I really like about this portion is it’s portable and you can make journal entries from anywhere without having to bring a paper journal around with you.

Pros of Using InsightTimer

  • You can take free live yoga classes any day of the week

  • It gives you a path to follow if you are a beginner on the app

  • It provides tons of free resources for managing stress and coping with everyday life

Cons of Using InsightTimer

  • The app can be overwhelming to a first-time user due to its vast array of resources

  • Some of the capabilities are limited in the free version such as rewinding/fast-forwarding meditations
